A simple accessory to dress up your everyday carry multi-tool

If you believe in having at least minimal everyday carry equipment available, then you probably carry a multi-tool.

Be it the iconic Leatherman tools or one of the myriad other companies producing them these days, the basic concept is sound. Having a set of pliers, a knife, and some screwdrivers in a compact unit appeals to many.

But carrying it on your hip in its original pouch, if it came with one, isn’t always the best solution.

Until recently, I had been using a fabric carrier for my multitool. It worked, but it wasn’t the best thing I could use. It looked cheap, and the fabric loop on the back was wearing out. So, the thing would slide around on my belt enough that I was constantly moving it around. Plus, the top was kept closed with velcro.

You’ll note that I wrote, “until recently.” That’s because 1791 EDC reached out with their multitool pouch and asked if I would test it and offer a review. I’m glad I took them up on the offer.

This is another fine leather product from a company with a great track record on everyday carry items. They handcraft the pouch individually from full-grain American leather. It feels more expensive than what you’re paying for it.

I received the medium size, which will carry a multitool up to 4 inches long and 1.2 inches wide. You also can get a larger unit, which will hold multitools up to 4.5 inches long and 1.6 inches wide.

The Easy Slide Solo Snap has very good craftsmanship. It looks much better on your belt than any fabric case ever would. Plus, the snap is solid. You can hear it and feel it lock in place, so you know the multitool won’t be slipping out.

The medium and large units have loops for belts up to 1.5 inches wide. That’s the only struggle I’ve had with my Easy Slide — it didn’t want to slide very easily at first! I don’t count that as a negative, just a fact of life.

This tool pouch is leather, so it’s stiff when you first get it. And I am using it on a 1.5-inch leather belt. So I’m sliding leather that is the max width through a loop made of leather on a brand new leather item. Of course, it’s going to stick! But after a short period, I can feel the leather on the loop breaking in a bit. Getting it on and off my belt is getting easier. I think it will soften up a bit more over time, giving me enough room for the belt to get through but sturdy enough to have it stay on my belt wherever I put it. I haven’t had to reach down and adjust this thing once.

Like most of its products, 1791 EDC offers the Easy Slide Solo Snap in black, burgundy, and chestnut. Thus, you have some options when it comes to matching your style. Or perhaps you’ll want to purchase a couple of different colors to match the belts you might use.

Whatever your decision, I think you’ll be satisfied with this impressive multi-tool pouch.
