The Dyrt has long been one of our go-to apps when planning a camping trip. It has continuously evolved and offers an extensive range of features and information. One of its standout qualities is the consistent user experience across both web and mobile platforms. It is incredibly user-friendly regardless of the device being used.

A particularly impressive feature is the route planning capability. For example, we input our trip from Michigan to Texas and told it to keep our maximum drive time to four hours. The application strategically plotted suitable campsites along the route. The system allows for detailed filtering based on preferences like hookup availability and campsite ratings, so you can control the types of places it recommends.
Drive Time is a slick new addition
The newly introduced Drive Time feature has revolutionized spontaneous camping trips. It lets users discover camping locations within a specified radius of their current position, with the usual comprehensive filtering options. This feature proves especially valuable for weekend adventures when exploring new areas.
As park hosts during winter seasons, we’ve found this feature particularly useful for planning weekend excursions from our base camp. Using our van that we’ve set up for weekend getaways, we can easily identify camping spots within a three-hour radius of our host location, filtering options to focus on specific types of camping locations, such as state parks or BLM land.

This automated radius search has eliminated the need for manual planning through Google Maps, significantly streamlining the process of discovering new camping locations. The Dyrt handles all these calculations efficiently, making campsite discovery more accessible than ever.
It is important to note that the drive time calculations are based on regular vehicle travel times, not RV-specific durations. When traveling with larger vehicles like motorhomes or travel trailers, users should adjust their search radius accordingly. A two-hour car journey might actually take three hours in an RV.
We checked in with The Dyrt on this, and they confirmed that they do not calculate time specifically for RV travel. They also made note of our question to take into consideration with any updates they may make.
Despite this minor consideration, The Dyrt’s new Drive Time feature is super handy. It’s another reason we consider The Dyrt one of our best apps when looking for places to camp.
